Remove the lacquer by boiling the cookware in a mixture of 1 cup of baking soda for every 2 gallons of water.
A layer of lacquer is applied over the utensil to protect it from tarnish. If this layer is not removed it will start melting at the time of cooking and can seriously cause stains on the stove and the cookware. Lacquer can be removed easily with the following procedure: Mix 1 cup soda in 2 gallons of boiling water and put the utensil in the water. This will remove the lacquer from the hammered copper cookware.
Do not use harsh washing powder or rough material to clean the utensil, as sharp washing will damage the lining of your cookware. Copper kitchenwares are always lined with a lot of materials like stainless steel, tin, or silver. This is done as to prevent the reaction of the toxic metal which mixes with the food during cooking process. Hence use of abrasive cleaners will certainly remove the lining which prevents the toxic metals to leech into our body.
Do not wash these cookwares in the dishwasher as it will cause it to degrade quickly. The best way to wash it is to rinse it in the warm water with mild dish soap.
Water droplets from washing can cause unsightly streaks and stains on your cookware. Dry your pots and pans thoroughly with a soft cloth after washing.
